I like DJ Quik

but I always misspell his name when I look him up on Youtube. I write "quick." But I'm not one to play the punk role.

Sooooo
I went to LACMA the other day. The exhibit was pretty swell. Jeez words aren't coming today. I don't think I got to see all the art but I my little head had had just about enough thought-provoking and meaningful art for one day. So we went to see Watchmen (Zing!)

I didn't like the movie. Don't get me wrong, it had its good parts. The McDuffy part was great, I wish the director or whoever added that in would have kept doing stuff like that throughout the movie. Instead, they tried to stay as close to the comic as they could, except for the ending(?!?) and the characters(?!) Nothing important. They left out my favorite line in the book ("Does the human heart know chasms so abysmal?") even though the scene was in the film and had new lines. Why? Because in the film, Dr. Manhattan figures he should mettle in the affairs of men once again because deep down he loves Ms. Juspeczyk. Silly sucka.

And what's up with Veidt being 25 years old? And evil? And friends with Manhattan? The ending was lame. The actions scenes were longer than they should have been. Same with the babymakan scenes. I think I would have liked the movie if I hadn't read the comic.

I think the director took a Rorschach approach to making the film: Black or white, good or evil. Rorschach isn't an artist, dude. Show us, don't tell us.
Oh well.

I'm almost twenty years old, and I still haven't caught a shiny Pokemon.

pity this busy monster, manunkind,

not. Progress is a comfortable disease:
your victim (death and life safely beyond)

plays with the bigness of his littleness

unwish through curving wherewhen till unwish
returns on its unself.
A world of made

and trees, poor stars and stones, but never this
fine specimen of hypermagical

ultraomnipotence. We doctors know

Glockenspiel

The glockenspiel (German, "set of bells" or "play-[of-]bells", also known as orchestra bells and, in its portable form, bell lira or bell lyre) is a musical instrument in the percussion family and orchestra is the gayest thing in the whole world.

From "The Guts Effect"

"A book is cheap to print and bind. A book is as private and consensual as sex. A book takes time and effort to consume-something that gives a reader every chance to walk away. Actually, so few people make the effort to read that it's difficult to call books a "mass medium." No one really gives a damn about books. No one has bothered to ban a book in decades."

Morning After Anthem

"Never again."
I like having life lessons fill my head until it hurts. But I hate how it feels.
I'm one night older and one morning wiser.
Never again.
Never again.
Never again.

The other one is a "Madonna and Child"-style shirt with Leia and R2D2.

I wanted to buy the Jedi Academy sweater from Disneyland but they discontinued it. It's not even on eBay.
I spent a total of $0.00 there today. No parking fees, no entrance, no food, nothing.
That makes it two Star Wars clothing items I want but can't find.
I should have bought the sweater then and I should have written down the website where that guy found the shirt.
Lesson learned. I'm gonna go buy some shoes.

DUI in Samaria.

Wow. I was driving home about an hour ago and I saw this guy stopped right before an intersection. I heard him yelling something and I asked if he needed help. I'm still not sure what he said back, but right then I was certain that he was wasted. I parked my car and went over to help him push the car. He kept saying he was fucked and that he didn't want a DUI. I noticed that his two left wheels were flat and that his air bags had deployed. He never told me what happened.
We tried to push it anyway, but the rain made the street too slippery to get any decent footing while trying to move the car. Just as we were getting ready to change the a tire to make it easier to move, a woman noticed us and offered to help. I thought she was had something to tow it or something like that, but surprisingly she said she would move the car out of the road by to pushing it with hers.

We were able to leave it in a decent enough parking position after 20 minutes or so of pushing the car around. Her car had a few scratches and a bump, but his looked completely beat up. He was happy enough he didn't get a DUI. I offered to take him home because he couldn't get a hold of anybody, but his girlfriend picked him up a few minutes after we got the car "parked."
He gave the woman with the truck some money and let me keep the sideview mirror that broke off during the move. I didn't do much except facilitate communication between the two cars and direct the drunk guy, but I was glad to have been able to do at least that.

I told him to please be careful next time before he left. His car was wrecked and I could see he felt awful about it. I'm not sure if that was a big enough deterrent to stop him from ever driving drunk again, but I hope so. I understand why some would argue the best possible course of action would have been to report the car to the police and let him face the consequences since he was acting irresponsibly, but that's just not me.
